SMBC's Institutional Client Department is looking to hire a Director level Senior Client Executive to help support the distribution activities of Syndications, primarily coverage of institutional and bank investors and distribution of the bank’s loan assets in the primary and secondary markets.


SMBC's Syndications team sets structuring, syndication and distribution strategy for all syndicated loans originated by SMBC in the Americas, as well as for any foreign originated loans executed in the US market. 


The team works in conjunction with:

- Debt Capital Markets
- Leveraged Finance
- Corporate Coverage (Across US and Latin America)
- Project and Trade Finance
- Real Estate Finance




1) Investor Coverage 
- Primary and secondary market distribution of Investment Grade, Leveraged, Middle Market and Structured Finance loans
- Manage relationships with institutional (CLO’s, Asset Managers, Hedge Funds) and bank investors, with a particular focus on institutional investors, to enhance our market reading effort and increase our underwriting and advisory opportunities
- Provide guidance to bankers on institutional investor client appetite and market sentiment
- Work with Origination team to manage structuring and primary distribution process
- Serve as point of contact for investors during syndication process and answer due diligence questions

2) Oversee Investor Database 
- Maintain an active database of institutional and bank investor appetite (both SMBC Agented and non-Agented transactions) and market trends
- Ensure that database is current and accurate
- Review weekly and provide real-time feedback to team via e-mail and DebtDomain

3) Ensure that all activity in the Group’s weekly pipeline/inventory report is updated




- The candidate should have a minimum of 10 years work experience selling or syndicating loan transactions to institutional investors
- BA or equivalent work experience required

- Experience working with institutional investors and understanding their investment criteria and asset allocation needs
- Experience syndicating or selling loan transactions to institutional investors in the primary or secondary market
- Ability to think strategically and creatively in the development of syndication strategies 
- Adept at sharing information and communicating in a team environment 
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills and ability to be convincing in front of investors 
- Ability to understand credit documentation 
- Ability to understand trading documentation 
- Strong writing skills with the ability to summarize the benefits and risks associated with syndicated loan transactions 
- Ability to build a trusting rapport with bankers and interdependencies 
- Ability to mentor associates and analysts
- Provide regular updates to Management 
- Ability to multi-task.
