Overview

SMBC is seeking a Production & Design Associate for the Marketing Solutions Department of US Corporate Banking. The Marketing Solutions team provides graphic design assistance to various departments within SMBC Americas Division and SMFG subsidiaries to help position SMBC uniquely in the Americas with clients, prospects & external partners through targeted marketing channels.

A particular focus of this role is a keen ability to conceptualize, design, edit and improve upon visual solutions for front-office PowerPoint pitch book and slide presentations. An ideal candidate will have exposure to pitch book material standards in the corporate banking and securities industries, with sharp attention to quick turnaround requirements and adherence to head office branding standards.

This role also entails maintenance of the Marketing Solutions team online content management tool that is utilized throughout the bank, and fielding requests from internal clients to update various marketing materials. A qualified candidate should have deep expertise and best practices for designing and formatting marketing content, as well as an ability to work as a team player in a small group with a wide range of internal customers whose end clients are high profile, global industry leaders.

 

Responsibilities

(1) Timely updating of content:
・Provide consistency and maintain visual branding standards for client presentation materials, including both fielding requests and proactively managing:
・Maintaining PowerPoint Master files for use throughout the bank departments
・Administration of the internal online marketing library and access to specified users; uploading and overseeing update process for library files, and training employees on the tool
・Updating of deal tombstone library for various businesses
・Maintaining PowerPoint biography library for bank groups
・Maintaining up-to-date corporate profile and other financial data credentials slides
・Maintaining up-to-date global maps for SMBC global presence
・Proofreading items for final drafts

(2) Create new content:
・Develop polished, professional PowerPoint presentations for client meetings using SMBC templates and colors
・Produce professional org charts and other flow charts using Microsoft Excel and Visio
・Create branded marketing collateral using Adobe Creative Suite
・Create Excel forms for large bank groups and invite lists
・Photo editing with Adobe Photoshop
・Logo editing with Adobe Illustrator

(3) Solving and Improving upon unmet needs:
・Enhance and implement corporate template standards and design guidelines
・Troubleshooting and spotting bottlenecks within digital or print production processes and other existing operational hurdles
・Work with internal resources (e.g., Legal dept, product experts), external vendors and production houses to review materials while in production for quality checks and to see projects through to completion to help ensure highest quality results
・Providing guidance for groups as needed on their side of responsibilities (eg, obtaining internal sign-offs, payment for outside printing, binding, delivery solutions)
・Assist in negotiating usage costs for visuals, from stock houses, photographers, etc.
・Take initiative to propose new design projects or solutions to address currently unmet needs
・Assisting in corporate event set-up when needed

 

Qualifications

Experience/Knowledge Requirements:

・Exposure/environment - minimum 3 years’ related work experience in a Fortune 500 type environment; commercial or investment banking firm a strong plus
・Industry standards - A moderate level of understanding of marketing fundamentals in global financial services and a creative flair for corporate branding under defined parameters
・Work skills - Ability to prioritize and multitask projects under tight time constraints and work with a sense of urgency
・Accuracy and attention to detail
・Open to feedback and willing to modify your designs
・Communication and People- Excellent communication skills in order to interpret and negotiate briefs with internal clients and follow up on action steps (ie. content, job requirements, approvals)
・A flexible approach when working in a team with limited oversight
・Effective networking skills to build relationships
・BFA in Graphic Design/Graphic Arts/Communications is a plus

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

-Software skills:
・Strong knowledge of MS Office, especially PowerPoint; experience with master files, tables, charts, macros, Excel workbooks and formulas
・Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, experience with InDesign files, Photoshop PSDs and Illustrator files.
・Basic SharePoint experience with file management and library maintenance
・Basic Visio knowledge
・Knowledge of content management systems and databases

-Strong organizational, prioritization and communication skills:
・Extremely strong organizational, follow-through and time management skills, particularly in organizing and tracking progress on multiple tasks from multiple projects
・Excellent file management skills to save, organize, share and maintain documents on server
・Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills with all levels of employees; copy editing and writing skills a plus
・Proactive problem-solving and an incorporation of industry best practices
・Experience with IT and vendor budget management is a plus

・Interest and awareness in working in a global business environment
・General knowledge of corporate banking, capital markets and an enthusiasm to learn more
・Ability to monitor legal/compliance and audit requirements as directed

・Team player with a 'can-do' attitude in a fast-paced, demanding yet collegial & entrepreneurial team environment.
・Willing to work outside of a normal 9-5 workday when necessary to meet deadlines and be available for occasional conference calls in different time zones if needed (i.e. 7am or 7pm calls).
