  • Overview

    This position will be responsible for maintaining and growing the Latin America and cross-border (into Latin America) business and enhancing Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Group's (SMBC Group) presence in the U.S. and global capital market businesses and M&A. This position will provide leadership, direction, and supervision to a team in order to ensure coordination of due diligence and workflow of team members, as well as hold a team accountable to delivering positive client results.  The position will also manage risk and elevate risk related concerns, and ensure compliance with bank regulations and internal policies and procedures.

     

     

    Responsibilities

    - Oversee delivery of value-added financing solutions to existing and prospective clients to augment client relationships and obtain transaction mandates.
    - Obtain mandates on merger and acquisition (M&A) deals, debt or equity capital market deals and lending transactions by leveraging the execution and lending capabilities of SMFG (Nikko Americas, Nikko Tokyo and SMBC).
    - Collaborate on a global basis for covered clients and support international clients (particularly Japanese clients) who are focused on the Americas.
    - Manage the current client portfolio and develop new relationships in order to create growth opportunities and maximize return on risk assets and minimize credit loss.
    - Manage the ongoing monitoring of the portfolio of existing clients proactively owning, responding to and anticipating any future needs, challenges or risks, and escalating in a timely manner.
    - Work with product specialists and subject matter experts across the bank to structure customized solutions that meet clients’ unique needs.
    - Provide leadership, direction, and management to the team as well as mentorship and develop opportunities to the next generation of leaders.
    - Handle more complex opportunities with strategic clients using networks, often at the Treasurer/CFO level; or assist in resolving difficult client issues.
    - Represent the company as required, including attendance of important functions, industry events and conferences.

     

    Qualifications

    - Minimum of 10 years of specialized experience
    - BA/BS, or its equivalent
    - MBA preferred
    - Series 79 and 63 

    - Deep knowledge of the focus industry, and understanding of credit and the Bank's full suite of products.
    - Proven ability to originate and close deals complex deals, develop creative financing solutions, cross-sell bank products and manage risk.
    - Deep ability to build a network of relationships to obtain a detailed understanding of the overall needs of our corporate clients globally to facilitate seamless execution.
    - Ability to develop and maintain a strong network of C-suite level contacts with high profile and strategic clients.
    - Deep understanding of market trends with the ability to react quickly to changing market conditions.
    - Able to work with and earn credibility with senior management and is viewed as being collegial, collaborative and a value-added partner in a matrixed organization.
    - Expert knowledge in regulatory framework in the region and well versed in internal policies and procedures.
    - Demonstrated track record of winning business and generating fees.
    - Proven ability to lead and manage a team.
