  • Overview

    SMBC is looking for an Associate to provide both analytical and administrative support to the senior level members of the Subscription Secured Finance Department ("SSFD"), including completing credit applications, modeling and conducting administrative tasks as required.   SSFD sits within the Bank's Real Estate Finance Department.   The ideal candidate will have at least two years prior front office banking experience within a commercial bank.

     

     

    Responsibilities

    - Provide support in executing transactions from origination to closing including building and maintaining financial models
    - Prepare credit applications, annual/quarterly deal reviews
    - Support due diligence processes, participate in day-to-day deal execution of deals and support the administrative activities of executing transactions
    - Monitor and evaluate current events related to the SSFD sectors
    - Work with relationship managers to prepare pitch books related to client marketing

    - Maintain regarular contact with fund sponsors, other financial institutions, and the bank's legal counsel.

    - Negotitate extensions and amendments independently and work with Relationship Managers to negotiate and structure new facilities. 
    - Analyze corporate or project level financial statements to ascertain credit worthiness of borrowers and quality of collateral (if applicable)

     

    Qualifications

    - Minimum of 2 to 5 years of specialized experience.  Prior experience at the analyst level in a corporate banking group preferred.

    - BA/BS or its equivalent required.

    - MA/MS/MBA preferred.

    - Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Bloomberg.

    - Developed financial modeling, valuation and analytical skills.
    - Knowledge of corporate finance and accounting, and experience analyzing company financials.
    - Familiarity with borrowing base loan structures.

    - Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    - Demonstrates a high degree of attention to detail and an ability to complete work accurately and in a timely manner against strict deadlines.
    - Developed knowledge of applicable bank regulations as well as internal bank procedures and controls.
