  • Overview

    SMBC is seeking a VP, Sr. Credit Officer with strong credit and quantitative skills to analyze the credit risk and various elements of real estate and gaming transactions in the Americas. Coverage includes Real Estate Investment Trust transactions,  single asset real estate projects (residential, commercial, office, etc), hotels & hospitality companies and gaming borrowers.

     

    Responsibilities

    -Analyze various risk elements of real estate transactions in the Americas and present written executive summaries/comments to credit applications to the management of the Credit Department.


    -Maintain and oversee the credit quality of the portfolio assigned and provide feedback to business units to ensure consistent and complete credit applications. Also, provide guidance to business units, as necessary, to ensure compliance with internal standards.

     

    -Monitor and supervise problem loans including Warning Obligors and present written memorandum/reports to management.


    -Manage compliance with internal policies, work flow procedures, regulations, etc.


    -Other credit related works/projects as assigned, including flexibility to lend help with subscription (capital calls) facilities when needed.

     

    Qualifications

    -In-depth knowledge of real estate, in addition to corporate finance and accounting, as well as, strong experience with REIT transactions.

    -Minimum of 7-10 years relevant work experience in the credit department of a major commercial/ international bank.

    -PC skills including Microsoft Word and Excel skills

     

    -Superior attention to details and critical thinking to focus on the key risk factors of highly structured transactions and visually present complex concepts with graphs, tables and flow charts.

    -Ability to quickly analyze a vast amount of information and render relevant and accurate credit decisions.

    -Risk sensitivity and ability to steer decisions through discussions with the business units.

    -Flexibility to work under tight deadlines and in a multitasking environment.
