    SMBC Nikko’s Fixed Income Sales and Trading (FIST) offers a broad range of investment services specifically tailored for institutional investors. Staffed with a team of highly experienced and knowledgeable professionals, our Fixed Income team offers deep economic insight, a wide array of product offerings, and seamless multi-currency executions. Our product line includes Corporate Bonds, Asset-Backed Securities, Project Finance, Money Markets, Repo and other Fixed Income Products. The team is dedicated to providing superior solutions to the unique return and risk management needs of our clients. We’re seeking highly motivated candidates with requisite experience and qualifications for an analyst position. This position will be responsible for covering assigned sectors, supporting the generation of trading and primary revenue, providing timely information to investors and internal partner groups.


    How the Program Works

    The Analyst Training Program at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Americas (SMBC) provides a quick start for select entry level professionals who demonstrate a high degree of emotional and cultural intelligence and who have a keen desire to build a successful career in global banking. The program begins with six weeks of coursework, which lay a foundation in financial analysis, SMBC processes, and professional development. After completing the program, analysts move into full-time positions in their respective business units.

    • Training is well rounded – We incorporate Credit and Financial Modelling, Financial Markets eLearning, Capital Markets, Accounting, Business Overviews (presented by panels of experts from our Business Units) and Case Studies into the program; as well as a visit to Bloomberg, Business Writing, Presentation Skills, Managing Your Career, Personal and SMBC Branding; Cultural Training and Networking events
    • Buddy assignments support fluid integration into the Analyst Training Program

    • Support fixed income sales people in number of administrative and analytical activities
    • Develop skills necessary to generate revenue and manage risk by making markets to investors
    • Assist in report generation, account opening and other key tasks
    • Coordinate with bankers to increase primary revenue
    • Establish relationships with clients
    • Cooperate with infrastructure groups as necessary
    • Assist in recruiting and training junior staff


    The successful candidate will possess or demonstrate the following personal and professional attributes: 

    • Bachelors' degree from an accredited university
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with specific ability to communicate concepts and ideas concisely and defend their validity
    • Excellent math and analytical skills
    • Ability to work with and earn credibility with senior management and is viewed as being collegiate, collaborative and a value-added partner in a matrixed organization
    • Intellectual curiosity and able to quickly learn new processes and systems
    • Ability to build a network of relationships across key clients and obtain a detailed understanding of the overall needs of our investor and issuer clients
    • Highly organized, detail oriented and proactive
    • Ability to understand market trends and react quickly to changing market conditions
    • Excellent technology skills with superior Excel and PowerPoint skills and ability to quickly learn new software applications
    • Familiarity with Bloomberg Terminal is a plus
    • Prior internship at a bank or financial institution highly preferred
