Under the guidance from senior marketing staff, the Associate II is responsible for the origination, execution and maintenance of client relationships in order to generate profitable new business opportunities with Japanese and Asian corporates. This position will originate business with new and existing clients and drive broader cross-sell opportunities for the Bank.
This position will contribute to the growth of the portfolio by sourcing and originating business opportunities with new and existing clients in alignment with the team's goals and strategic direction of the Bank. Position reports directly to the Group Head of JDAD LA.
Deliver value-added financing solutions to existing and prospective clients to augment client relationships and obtain transaction mandates.
Effectively manage client relationships to improve results and meet revenue targets. Responsible for a portfolio of client relationships. Involves traveling and presenting to clients regularly.
Execute against business strategy for the team to up-tier client relationships, increase market penetration and maximize profitability.
Promote deposit and FX transaction to existing and prospective clients.
Manage all aspects of new transactions from origination, documentation, and closing.
Participate in the ongoing monitoring of the portfolio of existing clients proactively owning, responding to and anticipating any future needs, challenges or risks, and escalating in a timely manner.
Work with product specialists and subject matter experts across the bank to structure customized solutions that meet clients’ unique needs.
Leverage the expertise and capabilities of other SMBC businesses in alignment with the strategy of the Bank.
Stay abreast of industry trends and developments.
Ability to quickly understand a variety of industries along with an understanding of the Bank's full suite of products.
Knowledge of deposit, FX transaction and loan structuring
Able to handle transactions independently from origination to execution.
Develop and maintain a network of client relationships as well as relationships across SMBC to obtain a detailed understanding of the overall needs of our corporate clients to facilitate seamless execution.
Excellent communication skills and attention to detail; clearly articulates view point orally and in marketing and presentation materials. Comfortable presenting in front of clients and internally to credit committees and senior management.
Understanding of market trends with flexibility to react quickly to changing market conditions.
Effectively partner with other internal teams and product areas and viewed as being collaborative.
Experience in promoting deposit and FX transaction
5-7 years of specialized experience. 2 years as an Associate in an investment or corporate bank
BA/BS required. Masters preferred.
