  • Overview

    SMBC Capital Markets, Inc. is looking for a high-energy individual that has an interest in both technology and the financial markets to join us as a Business Analyst in our Derivative Product Group Technology team.   The role will focus on a variety of projects including: data warehousing and reporting, support and testing efforts.   

     

    SMBC Capital Markets, Inc. is a market maker for swaps, including interest rate, currency and commodity swaps and related derivative products, headquartered in New York as a wholly-owned subsidiary of SMBC.  SMBC Capital Markets, Inc. was provisionally registered as a swap dealer with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission on December 31, 2012. Our business works in close collaboration with SMBC Nikko Capital Markets, Capital Markets Limited in the UK, and SMBC Capital Markets Asia, Ltd in Hong Kong to provide global coverage to SMBC’s corporate, institutional, and project clients.  Capital Markets maintains its own middle and back-office functions, including Risk Management, Compliance, Systems, Finance, and Operations. 

     

    Responsibilities

    • Business analysis for strategic projects and enhancements. Typically involves using SQL to analyze large/complex datasets to understand business data, investigate issues, and present potential solutions
    • Work with stakeholders, sponsors and management to understand and document business needs.
    • Liaise with in-house development team to design & build solutions.
    • Participate in production support and BAU enhancements of in-house developed business applications.
    • Document QA test plans and participate in QA testing (log and manage issues)
    • Work with users to document User Acceptance Testing (UAT) plans, manage UAT and track defects & resolutions.
    • Work with technology and business teams to document production implementation & validation plans
    • Create end-user documentation and conduct training sessions on new functionality as needed.
    • Create functional required documents (FRDs) and business requirements documents (BRDs), as well as other supporting artifacts such as current and future system and business workflows, GUI, or report mock-ups. Conduct review sessions of artifacts and request approvals.
    • Actively participate in senior management, business, and IT meetings. Capture and distribute effective meeting minutes
    • Organize and archive all project documentation into companywide repository.

     

    Qualifications

    Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or related program
    • At least 2 years of professional experience in business analysis or a similar position
    • At least 2 years of experience in finance, investment banking or the securities industry
    • Ability to use SQL on a daily basis to sort through large data sets, investigate issues and provide meaningful analysis
    • At least 1 year of experience in data warehousing and business intelligence concepts and tools (i.e. SSRS and PowerBI)
    • Experienced in client facing roles with the purpose of gathering and translating business requirements into technical/usable specifications for development
    • Experienced in creating effective documentation such as BRDs and FSDs that are approved by the business and IT
    • Experienced in all facets of standard software development life cycle, including hands-on experience during the testing phase (QA and UAT)
    • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work as both an individual contributor and in a team environment as well as across other departments
    • Familiarity with job functions, processes and trade life-cycle in derivatives trading a plus
    • Basic understanding of components of regulation is a big plus: Capital Standards, Confirmations, Clearing, Portfolio Reconciliation, industry-standard Margining and Collateralization practices and/or Trade Repository Reporting
