  • Overview

    We are looking for a new team member within Talent Development to join our growing organization and lead the management development function for SMBC America's Division.

     

    We seek a proven leader who has designed, implemented and measured the effectiveness of programs that encourage the identification and professional development of talent, leadership development programming and tracking and reporting on these efforts for a complex international organization, preferably in the financial services sector. The incumbent will focus on executing against and further building out SMBC’s succession planning process as well as establishing and implementing a strategy to grow leadership capability within the region and globally. This role reports to the Head of Talent Development.

    Responsibilities

    • Management Development Programming: Manages the research, formulation, review, revision, approval, communication, and delivery of SMBC’s near, mid term leadership development programming. Ensures that the resulting strategies and programs align with relevant business strategy, goals and priorities and head office initiatives, as well as, culture and philosophy, while promoting a diverse and highly capable workforce. Coordinates closely with HR peers to optimize communication and effectiveness of the team's deliverables.
    • Program Design and Implementation: Manages head office programs and integrates that programming into the framing and building of a leadership development program for targeted populations including assessment; specialized leadership training tracts; career development and pathing; critical positions and successor profiles; talent reviews to develop pipelines; and integrated coaching for the most senior job levels. In addition, develops/implements an executive coaching frame and selection methodology. Prepares budget forecasting, as needed to support these initiatives. Develops metrics, tracking, reporting and branding of programming.
    • Control and Compliance: Ensures development policies, programs and practices are fully compliant with applicable internal protocols and external laws and regulatory oversight. Ensures that external vendor relationships remain fully compliant with established SMBC protocols and external regulatory oversight. Ensures the highest degree of integrity, confidentiality, and discretion in the handling of all employee data and related communications by members of the talent development team. Oversees budget tracking/management, invoicing/tracking, and kessai and contract retention.
    • Team: Directs the daily activities of team members. Identifies priorities and provides guidance on the resolution of complex problems as they emerge. Escalates the communication of sensitive matters in a timely manner to the Head of Talent Development and the Head of Human Resources. Selects, leads, coaches, appraises, and develops the team members. Provides actionable feedback to team members on a regular basis. Prepares and maintains annual goals and development plans for the direct report.
    • Change Leadership: Champions optimization of the employee value proposition and the employee experience for SMBC and its subsidiaries by leading research, benchmarking and targeted advocacy of opportunistic change. Serves as a knowledge leader on matters (past, present and emerging) relating to training, leadership, and professional learning/development. Provides expert counsel on talent development matters to HR counterparts in SMBC Canada, Manufacturers Bank and SMBC's LATAM locations.

    Qualifications

    • At least 10 years of professional experience in Talent Development 
    • At least 3 years of management experience including directing and development of direct and indirect reports, effective delivery of actionable feedback, planning and delegation and the ability to frame, develop and articulate a strategy for the team
    • Experience working with Talent Systems (Success Factors LMS and Succession Planning preferred)
    • Ability to be both an individual contributor as well as a leader in a multi-cultural environment
    • Exceptional communication skills including presentation skills and the ability to clearly define a problem, possible solutions and effectively advocate its resolution
    • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office including proficiency in Excel, Access and databases (Oracle and Lotus Notes preferred)
    • Project Management skills 
    • Must demonstrate the highest standards of ethics, integrity, honesty, diversity and discretion
